How Long Does a Staircase Remodel Take?

For a typical DFW project, plan on one to three weeks of on-site work once the design is approved and materials are fabricated — but the full journey from first call to final walkthrough is worth understanding.

Step 1: Free in-home consultation (day one)

Everything starts with a free in-home consultation. We measure the staircase, talk through styles and materials, and leave you with a written estimate. Step 2: Design and material selection (about a week)

Once you approve the estimate, we finalize the design and you choose materials — wood species and stain, and the railing type: iron, glass, cable or wood. Lead times on specialty materials (custom glass panels, certain metals) can extend this stage, so ordering early keeps the project moving.

Step 3: In-house fabrication (about one to two weeks)

Here’s where owning our shop pays off. We fabricate treads, stringers and metalwork with our own crew rather than waiting in a subcontractor’s queue, so fabrication runs on our schedule, not someone else’s. Complex jobs — a floating staircase with engineered steel, or a curved statement stair — take longer than a straightforward spindle-and-refinish job.

Step 4: Installation and finish (one to three weeks on site)

Installation is the part you actually live around. A cosmetic remodel — swapping wood spindles for iron and refinishing the handrail — can be done in a few days. A full rebuild with tread and riser replacement, half-wall removal and refinishing runs closer to two to three weeks, including cure time for stain and sealer. Our crew protects the surrounding area and cleans up daily, so the home stays livable throughout.
